PeopleSoft RECONNECT 2017

Posted by Dan Maude on Aug 8, 2017 5:42:55 PM

Chicago is My Kind of Town, and once again, there have been connections reconnected. Once again, about 500 people attended RECONNECT 2017, the Quest User Group's annual deep-dive PeopleSoft only conference.

This is always a fine conference for PeopleSoft Enterprise customers, as it is focused and its' moderate size does lead toward more sharing and networking than the giant conferences Oracle has (and PeopleSoft used to have).

At the same time though, this conference is a Cryan' Shames. The Sugar and Spice of many sessions was offset by the Kind of a Drag almost total silence on the real actual future and the Cloud. Outside of PeopleSoft developers and management there was zero Oracle presence and things between PeopleSoft customers and Oracle seem more disconnected than ever.

Oracle Financial Results Impressive

Twelve months ago Oracle changed its compensation plans for North American Sales and Marketing folks, eliminating commissions for licenses of on-premises software. EBS, PeopleSoft, JDE and other "on-prem" software are still available through Oracle Digital, but the field sales and marketing teams became all cloud, all the time. Nothing else counts.

Posted by Dan Maude on Jun 9, 2017 3:12:10 PM

Test Manager Designed to Create, Schedule, Monitor and Analyze Application Test Plans

Now available, BEAM Test Manager is designed to define, schedule and monitor application testing.

The testing of an enterprise application, during implementation or after an update or upgrade, is a process to ensure that the application produces the expected results after the change. Whether application testing is done manually or with automated scripts, a great many steps need to be managed between a number of people, processes, departments and devices to ensure the application works as expected. BEAM Test Manager provides organizations with the information needed to facilitate these efforts.

The application testing process can be overwhelming and difficult to plan and control. BEAM Test Manager provides new tools to co-ordinate the testing process and to enhance communication and collaboration with test team members.

Selective Adoption Fundamentals

Adjusting PeopleSoft 9.2 Maintenance

For more than two decades, PeopleSoft followed the industry standard for how to deliver new application functionality to customers. The periodic delivery of massive application upgrades which were difficult and costly to apply was a model which customers had no choice but to accept. Internally, IT Departments and Line of Business system owners took up battle positions over upgrade scheduling. IT, which controlled the resources, would hold out for as long as possible to avoid committing time and money to an arduous PeopleSoft upgrade while Business owners would track and monitor fixes and enhancements delivered in new releases to build a business case in their favor.

Cloud Manager for PeopleSoft Coming to Oracle Marketplace

At the recent PeopleSoft Summit at Oracle Headquarters, a very interesting product called PeopleSoft Cloud Manager was demonstrated. The name might change, and no release dates were given. But the product looked mature (for a 1.0 release), and may prove of great value to customers who plan to keep running PeopleSoft applications for a while, but also want to enjoy the time and cost savings derived from automation and cloud processing.

Using Customization Repository with PeopleSoft Update Manager

Customization Repository on the PUM Source

Since the release of PeopleSoft’s 9.2 applications and PeopleTools 8.53, PeopleSoft Update Manager has been used to selectively choose patches and new functionality to apply to your existing PeopleSoft environments. Using Update Manager, administrators can search and select desired updates and allow the tool to build a comprehensive package which includes all necessary prerequisites and excludes updates which require a higher PeopleTools release than is available on the target environment. But if the PUM Instance is on a different database platform and/or PeopleTools release from the target, a compare using Application Designer cannot be run so you need another way to identify potential conflicts with customized objects prior to creating and exporting the change package. This is the function of the Customization Repository.

Oracle Enhances PeopleSoft Cumulative Feature Overview

For several years now, Oracle has been providing the bug fix and new functionality catalog known as the Cumulative Feature Overview (CFO) tool. This tool is designed to simplify the process of identifying which fixes and new features are available in each release. For customers who have upgraded to application release 9.2, the CFO tools facilitates Selective Adoption by providing convenient access to a comprehensive list of fixes and functionality in each new PeopleSoft 9.2 Image, allowing application business owners to work with technical staff to efficiently identify the features available to be adopted.
